Prayers and memories shared at our Remembrance Service

November 9, 2024 General

St Patrick's Chapel, Westminster Cathedral was overflowing with those who came to take part in our annual Service of Remembrance on 8 November. Bishop Paul McAleenan reflected on John's Gospel, "Do not let your hearts be troubled" reminding those attending that family and friends who have died will always be alive in our memories. He also led prayers in Irish.

Pupils from Holy Family School, Ealing, offered the bidding prayers which conveyed our concern for those in prison, for travellers and for those elderly Irish who find themselves alone. The school as a strong link with the Chaplaincy.

As candles were lit and names of the dead were read out reflective music was offered by Marion Hill.

Tom, a Chaplaincy volunteer made this comment on behalf of a client he visits: "Brendan attended and he enjoyed both the service and the interaction with people afterwards. He appreciated being able to add his sister's death to the list of deceased."

Denis Moloney, Emeritus Professor of Law, University of Ulster. and Trustee of Westminster Cathedral spoke of his admiration for the Irish Chaplaincy and its work, reminding those attending of the many roles that Irish people have had in building this country.
