St Brigid's feast celebrated in London
February 3, 2025 General
The beautifully renovated Brigid Chapel in the Crypt of St Bride's Church, Fleet Street, was the setting for our celebration of St Brigid of Kildare.
Warmly welcomed by Canon Dr Alison Joyce our time together began with a silence, the Global Pause for Peace initiated in 2023 by Solas Bhride to mark the new national holiday in honour of St. Brigid. Alison offered a reflection, explaining the origins of St Bride's and linking this to the celebrations for St Brigid in Ireland. Much of this was drawn from the sermon she gave in Kildare last year to mark the 1500 anniversary of Brigid's death.
The prayers of intercession recalled the work and gifts of Brigid as a peacemaker, as one commited to the poor, as one who teaches us to live in harmony with creation and one who shows us how to serve. Those present pledged to follow this work.
Here we see Paul Raymond acting CEO of the Irish Chaplaincy, Aine Mangan from Kildare Tourism Board and Canon Dr Alison Joyce in the Brigid Chapel.
